Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Regina Pats goaltender Tyler Brown has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending April 16, 2017.
The 20-year-old Brown went 2-2 with a 2.48 goals-against average, .930 save percentage and 159 saves over 290 minutes played as the Regina Pats erased a 3-1 series deficit to force a deciding Game 7 (Monday at 7 p.m. MT) in their second-round series with the Swift Current Broncos.
On Monday, April 17, Brown stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced and was named second star in a 2-1 overtime loss at Swift Current. On Tuesday, April 11, Brown then stopped 64 of 69 shots in a 5-4 triple-overtime loss at Swift Current. Facing elimination, Brown turned aside 30 of the 32 shots sent his way on Friday, April 14 in a 3-2 win versus Swift Current, being recognized as second star for his efforts. Finally, Brown made 34 saves on 37 shots on Saturday, April 15 in a 5-3 win at Swift Current as the Pats forced Game 7 back in Regina Monday.
To this point in the 2017 WHL Playoffs, Brown is 7-3 with a 1.98 GAA and .935 SV%. He sits among the WHL Playoffs leaders in GAA (first), SV% (third), wins (T-2nd), minutes played (665 – fourth) and saves (315 – fourth).
Brown, who is in his third WHL campaign, went 33-8-5-1 with a 2.64 GAA, .911 SV% and five shutouts in 50 regular season appearances.
The 6-foot-1, 178-pound product of Winnipeg has gone 61-34-7-6 with a 2.94 GAA, .908 SV% and seven shutouts in 119 career WHL regular season appearances.
In 22 career WHL post-season contests, Brown is 14-8 with a 2.36 GAA, .925 SV% and two shutouts.
Brown and the Pats will look to utilize home ice as they host the Swift Current Broncos for a winner-take-all Game 7 to close out their second-round series Monday night (7 p.m. MT) at the Brandt Centre.
