Hockey Manitoba would like to inform all members of the recent legislation under the Retail Sales Tax (RST) Act announced by the Province of Manitoba which identified that certain insurance contracts and the corresponding premiums in Manitoba are now subject to 7% RST. This legislation was effective July 15, 2012 and was circulated in the Province of Manitoba’s Information Bulletin No. 061, which can be found by clicking the link below.

In consultation with our organization’s auditors, Hockey Canada and their insurance providers, we have confirmed that a portion of the insurance (Liability, AD&D, D&O) provided to members of Hockey Manitoba is subject to RST under the new legislation stated above. Although Hockey Manitoba is not responsible for directly remitting the RST to the Province of Manitoba (this is the responsibility of the insurance provider), our organization will be responsible for submitting the invoiced amount (based on registration) annually to the appropriate insurance provider.
Therefore, to ensure compliance with legislation, we would like to inform our membership that effective the 2012 – 2013 season, the fee collected for Hockey Canada Insurance will be increased by $.75 per member. The previous insurance fee of $15.65 per member will now be $16.40 per member.
Please note that although this will affect the total fee per member, Hockey Manitoba has not increased its individual or team membership fees. Hockey Manitoba will not receive any portion of the additional $.75 collected for RST, and it will simply be passed on to our insurance providers in order to comply with the new legislation.
Hockey Manitoba has updated its membership fee structure accordingly which can be viewed at the link below.
