by Hockey Manitoba  |  April 30, 2012 1:32 pm

Greg McClelland – Winnipeg, MB

Greg McClelland has been involved in minor hockey in the St. Vital area for the past 30 years. He has coached, managed and mentored in that time. His biggest contribution has been starting the Vics AA program from the ground up which has included everything from searching for a name to using the Vics moniker as an identity of AA hockey in St. Vital. Greg, together with his various groups of volunteers has built up this program to what it is today.

Due to Greg's vision and dedication all of the players in St. Vital aspire to play for and proudly display the Vic's logo. In addition to this he has also been managing and running the St. Vital arena for the hockey association the past 15 years to make sure the kids of the area always had a place to play this great game.

Hockey Manitoba and Hockey Winnipeg congratulate Greg McClelland as one of our April 2012 Volunteers of the Month.

Keith Jordan – Neepawa, MB (Yellowhead)

Keith Jordan has been the Referee in Chief in Neepawa since he retired there in 2002. In total, Keith has been involved with the officiating program for approx. 42 years. He has been a driving force in recruiting new officials and helping them develop along the way.

Keith typically helps run the Level 1, 2 and 3 clinics for all new referees and mentors each new referee/linesman on the ice for 2 games before they move on to officiating games by themselves. Keith continues his mentorship throughout the year and monitors the young referees almost every Saturday and Sunday where he provides them with feedback between periods. The supervision and evaluation continues with written reports which he submits to the Regional Referee Coordinator.

Keith usually takes the young referees as a group to watch a Neepawa Natives Junior Hockey game where they do a critique, as a group, of the officials to help in their personal development. Keith also arranges all officials for all minor hockey games and tournaments as well as the Neepawa High School Hockey team and the local Senior Team, the Neepawa Farmers. Keith attends all the Minor Hockey meetings and is a huge advocate for the young officials in making sure the coaches in Neepawa are respectful of the officials.

Hockey Manitoba and the Yellowhead region congratulate Keith Jordan as one of our April 2012 Volunteers of the Month.

The Volunteer of the Month award is presented by Awards & More, official partner of Hockey Manitoba.
