Calgary, AB – Brendan Shinnimin of the Tri-City Americans captured the Bob Clarke trophy as the WHL’s scoring leader for the 2011-12 regular season.

The 21-year-old from Winnipeg, MB, led the WHL in scoring with 134 points this season, netting 58 goals and 76 assists in 69 games. He finished the season with 11 more points than his nearest competition, Mark Stone of the Brandon Wheat Kings, who finished with 123 points.

Shinnimin becomes just the second player from the Tri-City Americans to win the WHL scoring championship, following Daymond Langkow, who led the League in scoring during the 1994-95 season. His 134 points is the highest point total by a WHL player since Pavel Brendl recorded 134 points for the Calgary Hitmen during the 1998-99 season.

Shinnimin recorded points in 60 of the 69 games he played this season, and finished the season on a 23-game point streak. He was named the Husky WHL Player of the Month for February after piling up a whopping 23 goals and 43 points in just 14 games.

In his fourth and final season with the Americans, Shinnimin’s 58 goals were the second-most in the WHL while his 76 assists was the third-highest total. In addition, Shinnimin finished second among all WHL players with 21 power play goals, second among WHL players with seven shorthanded goals, and tied for third with nine game-winning goals.

Shinnimin, who was listed by the Americans following the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, has played 267 career regular-season games for the Americans, scoring 131 goals and 337 points. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Phoenix Coyotes in early March.
