EDMONDS NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince George Cougars goaltender Ty Edmonds has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 18, 2016.

Edmonds, a 20-year-old product of Winnipeg, MB, went 3-0-0-0 this past week, with a 1.67 goals-against average and .932 save percentage. He opened the week with a 16-save performance on Tuesday, December 13, in a 4-1 win versus Tri-City before turning aside another 22 shots on Wednesday, December 14, in a 5-3 win versus Tri-City. Taking to the road, Edmonds made 30 saves on Saturday, December 17, in a 2-1 win at Spokane, earning first star honours.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound goaltender was originally selected by the Prince George Cougars in the ninth round (186th) of the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft. In his fourth season with the Cougars, Edmonds is 20-5-1-0. His 2.07 GAA ranks second in the WHL, while his .925 SV% ranks third in the league this season. The veteran puck-stopper’s 20 triumphs also rank second in the WHL. Edmonds has one shutout to his credit this season.

In 188 career WHL regular season appearances, Edmonds is 89-65-7-8 with a 3.24 GAA, .900 SV% and seven shutouts.
