FEMALE U18 AND U16 TOP-40 ROSTERS ANNOUNCED

by Hockey Manitoba  |  May 4, 2017 3:02 pm

Winnipeg, Manitoba – Hockey Manitoba is pleased to announce the roster for the 2017 Female U18 and U16 Program of Excellence. The Female POE Top-40 Camp will be held in Portage la Prairie the weekend of May 11-14 at Stride Place. This is the second phase of the female Program of Excellence which leads towards the selection of the U18 Team Manitoba as well as the Female U16 Team Manitoba. U18 Team Manitoba will go on to participate in the 2017 Women’s U18 National Championship in Quebec City, Quebec in November 2017.

The Female POE Top-40 Camp is designed to mirror the selection camps used by Hockey Canada at the U18, Development and National Team level. The camp combines a busy schedule of on-ice practice/skills, off-ice fitness testing, team building and inter-squad games. Players are taught about the importance of preparation and recovery in a short term competition environment.

This year’s U18 Top-40 roster includes 3 returning players from the 2016 U18 Team Manitoba (Ashley McFadden, Sarah Dennehy and Olivia Cvar). Also included are two goaltenders who have been selected to attend the Team Canada U18 Strength and Conditioning Camp (Logan Angers and Halle Oswald).

The roster for the Female U16 Top-40 sees a nearly even split between players from the Rural AAA leagues and the Winnipeg AA league. The roster also includes 10 players who spent this past season playing for either of the two Prep Schools in Winnipeg or on various teams in the Midget AAA league (MFMHL).

The rosters for both programs can be found via the links below:

The Female Program of Excellence is designed to provide high performance female players with the opportunity to develop advanced skills as well as an introduction to the concepts needed to play at an elite level. Players from the Program of Excellence go on to play at the CIS, NCAA and International level.
