Fort Garry Twins will keep momentum going in championship game

by Hockey Manitoba  |  October 6, 2013 3:18 pm

Despite having only four practices as a team before entering the MTS Showcase Challenge tournament, it’s all coming together for the Fort Garry Twins said head coach Kayla Hobday moments before the championship game.

“We had no expectations coming in. We were just hoping our team would gel more as a unit and the girls have gone above and beyond.”

The Twins are 3-0 this tournament and have let in only two goals all weekend. For the final this afternoon, they’ll concentrate on defense and keep the game’s pace high, said Hobday.

“Our key today is to keep our feet moving and focus on our zone. Yesterday we were scrambling a little in our end and if we can calm things down and use our speed, we should be fine.”

Hobday is impressed with how the Twins have come together as a team so quickly and hopes the tournament’s momentum will carry forward in the season.

“We’re just playing our game. We’ve got a great foundation going and hopefully we’ll keep building and getting better and make a run for the championship.”

The twins face the Pembina Valley Hawks at 3:20 p.m. in the MTS Showcase Challenge finals.
