Help Needed for Cancer Fundraiser – Shoot for the Cure

By Shawnda Muir

Shoot for the Cure Event Director

You’re invited to participate in the 2nd Annual Shoot for the Cure, a fundraiser for cancer research, to be held on April 8 and 9, 2009 in Oak Bluff. Last February’s inaugural event in Oak Bluff was a tremendous success and raised more than $130,000. We hope we can count on your support to again surpass the $100,000 mark. As a hockey mom who’s continuing treatments against breast cancer– and who survived the “hat trick” cancer diagnosis of my husband, father and me last year—I know a number of new families within the hockey and ringette communities dealing with cancer. Thousands more across our province continue to be affected, and it is important for all of us to work toward a cure. How Shoot for the Cure will work A “shoot-out” on April 8 and 9 will cap off a “Pink Play-off Drive” involving hockey and ringette players from all around Manitoba collecting pledges and raising money. Other planned activities include a teen dance, auctions and an evening gala event. This will include a tribute to cancer survivors and others in the community whose lives have been touched by cancer. How you can make Shoot for the Cure a success There are several ways you can participate:

  • As a hockey and ringette family or team, you can collect pledges (or make a pledge to the Muir family).
  • Collect sponsorships – cash donations or “big ticket” silent auction items
  • Purchase teen dance and gala tickets (April 8 and 9) deadline March 27.
