HOCKEY CANADA ANNOUNCES MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM ROSTER FOR THE UPCOMING SKODA CUP

BASEL, SWITZERLAND – Hockey Canada announced Tuesday Team Canada’s Men’s National Team roster for the Skoda Cup being held in Basel, Switzerland February 6-8, 2004.

The Skoda Cup, formerly known as the Swiss Cup, is held annually in Basel, Switzerland. This will be the second time Team Canada has participated in the event, placing second in last years tournament.

Hockey Canada’s Vice-president, Hockey Johnny Misley and Team Manager Scott Salmond along with Head Coach Gary Green have put together a roster of Canadian born players playing in Europe on loan from their club teams and one AHL team.

“We are very pleased with the team we have assembled for this event. We have been successful at two previous tournaments in Europe this season with Canada’s Men’s National Teams (Slovakia Cup and Spengler Cup), and we feel we have a great chance to add a third championship with this team,” said Johnny Misley. “We are very thankful to all the teams that allowed their players to participate in this event and represent Canada at this year’s Skoda Cup.”

Canada’s 22-player roster for the Skoda Cup will boast many former NHL players, with their career NHL stats in brackets.

Head Coach Gary Green was also the Head Coach for Team Canada’s gold medal winning team at last year’s 2003 Spengler Cup. Green, who also coached the NHL’s Washington Capitals from 1979 to 1981, will be joined by Assistant Coaches Don McKee, who is currently with the Odessa Jackalopes in the CHL and Bob Leslie.

Canada will play an exhibition game Tuesday, February 3 @ 11:30am (MT) in Budapest, Hungary versus the Hungarian National Team. Then the Canadian’s will open up the tournament against Germany on Friday, February 6 @ 7:45pm (MT), followed by their second game, Saturday, February 7 @ 11:30am (MT) vs. Slovakia, and their final game Sunday, February 8 @ 7:30pm (MT) vs. Switzerland.
