HOCKEY MANITOBA ANNOUNCES EVALUATION ROSTERS; ADDS 1992 BORN PLAYERS

by Hockey Manitoba  |  June 7, 2007 12:12 pm

Hockey Manitoba is pleased to announce the names of the forty (40) 1991 born male players who have been selected to attend the Male Program of Excellence Summer Camp to be held in Winnipeg at the University of Manitoba from July 4-8, 2007.

All players attending the Summer Camp were selected from the one hundred and thirty six (136) players from across Manitoba who attended the Program of Excellence Spring Tournament held April 27-29 at the Max Bell Centre in Winnipeg. The group of 1991 born players will try to maintain Manitoba’s impressive showings over the past few years (Gold as part of Team Western – 2005 and Silver as Team Manitoba at the 2007 Canada Games). “For a province with just under 5% of the hockey playing population in Canada, we continue to impress on the national scene. We feel our players can compete with anyone in the country; and we have proven that over the past few years” exclaimed Brian Franklin, Hockey Manitoba’s new President.

Eleven players, selected from the summer camp, will join 11 players from Saskatchewan to form Team Western. Team Western will compete at the World Under 17 Championship in London, Ontario from December 27, 2007 to January 5, 2008.

For the first time ever, Hockey Manitoba would also like to announce that, in conjunction with the NCCP High Performance I Coaching Seminar, we have invited forty (40) of the top 1992 born players who played in Manitoba during the 2006-2007 season to attend our summer camp. These players will form two of the four teams of 20 players that our coaching candidates will work with as a portion of their seminar tasks. It is Hockey Manitoba’s hope that the 1992 born players will be provided with a better understanding of the high performance programs in Canada and be better prepared if they are selected to attend the Team Western Under 17 Camps in 2008.

Team Western’s Manitoba coach is Chris Yaschyshyn (Morden), who is the head coach of the Pembina Valley Hawks of the Manitoba AAA Midget league.
