HOCKEY MANITOBA ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S UNDER – 18 ROSTER

by Hockey Manitoba  |  November 7, 2007 12:12 pm

Hockey Manitoba is proud to announce the Women’s Under – 18 Provincial Team that will be representing Manitoba at the National Women’s Under – 18 Hockey Championships in Kitchener, Ontario, November 7-11, 2007.

Team Manitoba returns twelve players that were a key part of the silver medal winning squad at the Canada Winter Games last March in Whitehorse, Yukon. Of the twenty-three goals that Manitoba scored in Whitehorse, this year’s returning players were responsible for twenty of them. The second place finish represents Manitoba’s best ever finish at a national championship.

In goal, Delayne Brian, who played four of Manitoba’s five games in Whitehorse, returns and will be joined by newcomer Tara Lacquette. On the blue line, Manitoba returns three players, Rebecca Hewett, Kyleigh Palmer and Kristi-Lyn Pollock. Joining them on the point will be Glenda Edie, Brittany Hergesheimer, and Caitlin MacDonald.

Up front, Manitoba boasts a wealth of experience, with eight players returning from Whitehorse including Bailey Bram, Breann Frykas, Chelsea Illchuk, Chelsea Karpenko, Kylie Klassen, Jenelle Kohanchuk, Nellie Minshull, and Katie Wilson. Christine Bestland, Amy Lee, Brandi Pollock and Brittany Phillips round out the forwards.

Manitoba’s roster also includes five players, Brian, Hewett, Bram, Frykas and Karpenko, that were a part of the inaugural Team Canada Women’s National Under – 18 team that competed in a three game series against Team USA this summer in Ottawa.

The team will be led by Head Coach Laura Solberg, who will be joined on the bench by Dean Rebeck and Jon Rempel. Solberg was an Assistant Coach with last year’s squad in Whitehorse.

This year’s National Women’s Under – 18 Championships will take place November 7-11 in Kitchener, Ontario. Team Manitoba will open action on November 7th at 1:00 PM as they take on Team Saskatchewan, before concluding the round robin with games against Team Alberta and Team Ontario Red. The Gold Medal game is slated for Sunday afternoon. For more details on the event, visit Hockey Canada’s website at Hockey Canada.
