by Hockey Manitoba  |  June 1, 2010 2:04 pm

After an extremely busy and successful 2009-10 hockey season, in which a number of high profile events including the 2010 AAA Midget Regionals (Morden, MB), the 2010 RBC Cup (Dauphin, MB) and the 2010 Memorial Cup (Brandon, MB) showcased the game across the province, Hockey Manitoba now looks forward to another exciting season in 2010-11. At the recent Annual General Meeting held in Winnipeg, Hockey Manitoba’s Executive Committee responsible for providing leadership and a clear vision for the development of hockey in our province was established as follows:

President – Brian Franklin (Deloraine, MB)

Vice President – Bill Whitehead (Roland, MB)

Past President – Brian Sarna (Winnipeg, MB)

Chair of Finance – Dale Fossay (Starbuck, MB)

Chair of Senior Male – Ray Brethour (Hamiota, MB)

Chair of Junior A – Kim Davis (Winnipeg, MB)

Chair of Junior B – Rick Olson (Selkirk, MB)

Chair of Minor East – Bert Dow (Morden, MB)

Chair of Minor West – Ken Gladden (Gillam, MB)

President of Winnipeg Minor – Don McIntosh (Winnipeg, MB)

Chair of Junior/Senior Female – Jay Leary (Swan Lake, MB)

President Brian Franklin exclaimed, “I am looking forward to a productive and exciting new term as the Branch President and am pleased to have the support of a progressive and strong Executive Committee. With Manitoba hosting the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, the 2011 Western Bantam Championship and the 2011 Senior Female Western Shield Championship, the 2010-11 season will place our province in the center of the hockey world and once again highlight the dedication of our invaluable volunteers to the game of hockey.”

Hockey Manitoba’s Executive Committee will be meeting in June to develop a strategic plan for 2010-11. In addition to current programs such as the Program of Excellence, Director’s Cup, Female Bantam Challenge, Regional Development Squads, Hockey Canada Skills Camps, Provincial Championships, Female Hockey Festival, Hockey Manitoba Cup Adult Rec. Championship and Coach/Officials certification, a number of new initiatives designed to provide opportunities for new and existing members will be reviewed. The opening of the new MTS Iceplex will also enable Hockey Manitoba to run various development programs and events throughout the year.
