KUBIC NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Vancouver Giants goaltender Ryan Kubic has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 16, 2016.

Kubic, an 18-year-old native of St. Andrews, MB, went 4-0-0-0 this past week, including a 28-save shutout in a 2-0 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday, October 11, in which he was named first star. Kubic started the week by making 30 saves in a 5-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Monday, October 10. He then made another 25 saves in a 4-3 overtime victory against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday, October 14, before concluding his week with a 36-save performance in a 2-1 overtime win against the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday, October 15, in which he was once again named first star.

Over the four triumphs, Kubic notched a 1.73 goals-against average and .944 save percentage.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Kubic is eligible for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and leads Giants goaltenders with a 3.31 GAA, .895 SP and one shutout alongside a record of 5-5-0-0 this season.

Kubic, who was a second round pick (39th) of the Giants at the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, is in his second WHL campaign, having compiled a record of 22-31-4-2, 3.36 GAA, .895 SP and five shutouts in 63 career WHL regular season appearances.
