NEWARK, NJ- Madison Bowey of the Kelowna Rockets (WHL), has been drafted 53rd overall in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals. The 6’1″, 200 lbs Winnipeg native has been a part of the Kelowna Rockets’ organization since 2011. The Rockets’ sturdy defenseman has the ability to read the ice well while incorporating speed into both his offensive and defensive games. His skating abilities has ranked him as high as 32nd among North American skaters which led him to be a great prospect for the NHL.

This past season Bowey has helped his team to a 52 win season recording 30 points (12 G, 18 A) in 69 games. After being down 3-0 in their playoff series against Seattle, Bowey helped the Rockets overcome the deficit moving on to Kamloops, who eventually put a hault to the Rockets’ playoff run. Bowey, also a Hockey Manitoba alumnus, was part of Program of Excellence in 2010-11 where he participated in the 2011 Canada Winter Games, leading Team Manitoba with 6 points (2 G, 4 A) in 6 games. Bowey was also selected to U-17 Team West in 2011-12, leading onto U-18 Team Canada at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and again at the 2013 IIHF World Men’s U-18 Championships, winning gold on both occasions. At the 2013 World U-18’s, Bowey served as assistant captain, led Team Canada in ice time, and recorded 4 points through 7 games (2G, 2A – 4PTS, +3).
