Manitoba Moose Officials Night & Clinic – February 6th

by Hockey Manitoba  |  January 12, 2010 11:49 am

The Manitoba Moose and Hockey Manitoba are proud to present the 2nd Annual Manitoba Officials Night & Clinic at MTS Centre on Saturday, February 6th, 2010. This will be an exciting opportunity for all on-ice referees and officials from Hockey Manitoba to come out to learn and interact with AHL & NHL officials who have risen through the ranks of Hockey Manitoba to where they are today.

This year’s edition will feature two NHL officials as our special guests:

Ryan Galloway – He began his officiating career at the age of 12 in the St. James Minor Hockey Association, and worked his way up through the ranks officiating Midget AAA, MMJHL, MJHL and Men’s University hockey. He officiated his first international event at the 1996 World Junior Championship (‘C’ Pool), and also worked as a linesman extensively in the WHL, IHL and AHL from 1992-2003. He attended the NHL Officials Prospect Camp in 2001, and worked his first NHL game on October 17, 2002. He has been a full time NHL linesman since 2003, and has worked close to 450 regular season games.

Kyle Rehman – He began his officiating career in 2000, and started in the WHL in 2002. He officiated in the WHL for five years, working in the finals three times, as well as two Memorial Cups (2006 & 2007). He won the Allen Paradice Memorial Award in 2005-06 (Top Official voted by GMs and Coaches). He also has experience in international hockey, officiating the World Under-17 Championships in 2003-04 (St. John’s, NFLD), and the World Under-18 Championships in 2007 (Tampere, Finland). He has also been officiating AHL games since 2006-07, and worked his first NHL game on January 22, 2008. He was also was one of only two officials to referee multiple games in the 2009 AHL Calder Cup Final.

The day will begin at 1:00 PM with registration, and a preliminary information session with Hockey Manitoba’s Officiating Development team.

At 2:30, Kyle and Ryan will be leading the clinic with some on-ice and off-ice instruction for everyone in attendance. Assisting them during this session will be some local Level 6 Hockey Manitoba/AHL Officials: Garth Loeppky, Raymond Damphousse, and Greg McDonald, amongst others.

During the on-ice session, we will be asking some of you to help participate in the on-ice session – everyone who signs up will be entered to have a chance to go on the ice with Kyle, Ryan, Garth, Raymond, and Greg (Participants will be notified prior to February 6th).

Following the on ice session, everyone will head upstairs to our 300 level for pizza and some presentations from our special guests. Our MC for this session will be Dan McCourt, a veteran with 25 years of on-ice experience as a linesman with the NHL (over 1,700 regular season and playoff games), who has worked in the NHL Officiating head office for the past 6 years as an Officiating Manager.

Once the Q & A session is complete, everyone will head downstairs to enjoy some great Manitoba Moose action when the Manitoba Moose take on the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 PM, where you will be able to watch Kyle in action as the referee for the evening’s game.

We will also be holding a special draw for everyone who attends the clinic to have a chance to accompany Kyle to the AHL Officials room at 6:30 PM to see what it is like to prepare for officiate an AHL regular season game. The winners will also have the chance to skate on the ice during the player introductions and anthems with Kyle. All winners will be notified prior to February 6th.

This offer has been extended to all Referees and Officials registered with Hockey Manitoba, and you can purchase this package for only $32 to attend the entire day. You will receive:
