PATS’ BROWN NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Regina Pats goaltender Tyler Brown has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending April 23, 2017.

The 20-year-old Brown went 2-1 with a 1.53 goals-against average, .937 save percentage and 74 saves over 196 minutes played as the Regina Pats scored a Game 7 victory over the Swift Current Broncos before splitting the opening two games of the Eastern Conference Championship with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. This is the second consecutive week and third time this season Brown has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week. He was previously named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 12 and the week ending April 16.

On Monday, April 17, Brown stopped 23 of 24 shots in a 5-1 win in Game 7 versus Swift Current as the Pats advanced to the Eastern Conference Championship. On Friday, April 21, Brown stopped 22 of 24 shots in a 3-1 loss versus Lethbridge and was named second star. He then stopped 29 of 31 shots on Saturday, April 22 in a 3-2 overtime win versus Lethbridge as the Pats split the opening games of the Eastern Conference Championship.

To this point in the 2017 WHL Playoffs, Brown is 9-4 with a 1.88 GAA and .935 SV%. He sits among the WHL Playoffs leaders in GAA (first), SV% (T-2nd), wins (T-1st), minutes played (861 – third) and saves (389 – third).

Brown, who is in his third WHL campaign, went 33-8-5-1 with a 2.64 GAA, .911 SV% and five shutouts in 50 regular season appearances. The 6-foot-1, 178-pound product of Winnipeg has gone 61-34-7-6 with a 2.94 GAA, .908 SV% and seven shutouts in 119 career WHL regular season appearances.

In 25 career WHL post-season contests, Brown is 16-9 with a 2.25 GAA, .926 SV% and two shutouts.

Brown and the Pats head to Lethbridge for Games 3 and 4 of the Eastern Conference Championship, with Game 3 scheduled for Tuesday, April 25 (7 p.m. MT) at the Enmax Centre.
