REBELS’ LAMB NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Red Deer Rebels goaltender Riley Lamb has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week and league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 18, 2018.

Lamb won all four of his games this week as the Rebels went undefeated through the B.C. Division, posting a 1.50 goals-against-average, .957 save percentage and one shutout as the Rebels improved to 8-1-1-0 in their last 10 games, rising into third place in the Central Division.

Monday in northern British  Columbia, Lamb posted a 25-save shutout in a 4-0 win against the Prince George Cougars, the fourth shutout of his WHL career, earning him second star honours in the game and first star honours of the night in the WHL.

Two days later in the Okanagan, Lamb stopped 36 of 37 shots in a 4-1 win against the B.C. Division-leading Kelowna Rockets. He was named the first star of the game and the third star of the night in the WHL.

Lamb continued his impressive streak with a 33-save performance in a 4-3 win against the Victoria Royals Friday, earning him second star honours for the game. His strong week came to a close Saturday at the Langley Events Centre as the Rebels doubled up the Vancouver Giants by a 4-2 score, Lamb making 39 saves in the contest.

With Lamb in net this week, opponents went just two-for-13 on the power play while the Rebels trailed for just 13 minutes 31 seconds during the 240 minutes Lamb spent in net this week. Lamb has been unbeatable in February and since Tuesday, January 30 he’s 7-0-0-0 with a 1.70 GAA and .947 SV% with one shutout.

A 6-foot-0, 176-pound product of Rivers, Man., the 19-year-old Lamb has played in 65 WHL regular season games, posting a 22-21-8-5 record, 3.33 GAA, .901 SV% and four shutouts. This week’s victory marks the second time in three weeks that Lamb has captured the honours.

Lamb and the Rebels will look to continue their impressive run Wednesday, February 21 (7:00 p.m. MST) when they wrap up a six-game road trip against the Calgary Hitmen.
