Roster announced for 2012 Under-17 Team West

WINNIPEG – Hockey Manitoba and Saskatchewan Hockey Association are pleased to announce the 2012 Team West roster that will compete at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Originally slated for Winnipeg but moved due to the return of the Winnipeg Jets, the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge will be held December 29 – January 4 in Windsor, ON.

The team is annually comprised of 11 players from Manitoba and 11 players from Saskatchewan to form Team West. This year’s Manitoban contingent consists of four players from the Western Hockey League (WHL), three players from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), and four players from the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League (MMAAAHL).

Winnipeg Blues bench boss, Don MacGillivray (Winnipeg) is an assistant coach of Team West and has lead the U-17 Program of Excellence selection process in Manitoba this past season. Joining the Team West staff as video coach will be Dan Eliasson (Winnipeg) who’ll replace Ray Neufeld (Winnipeg) who stepped aside for other personal commitments. Eliasson won the 2011 TELUS Cup – National Midget Championship as head coach with the Winnipeg Thrashers last season and was previously the Team West video coach in 2010.

Team West will compete in Pool B with Team Pacific, Team Czech Republic, Team Russia, and Team USA. Meanwhile Pool A will feature Team Atlantic, Team Quebec, Team Germany, Team Sweden along with last year’s champion Team Ontario.
