Winnipeg, MB – Hockey Manitoba would like to acknowledge and congratulate officials Amy Martin (Stonewall) and Joanne Senecal (Winnipeg) who represented Manitoba at The National Women’s Under 18 Championship last week in Morden and Winkler. Amy Martin refereed in the Gold Medal game this past Saturday between Team Ontario Red and Team Saskatchewan, a tremendous honour that is viewed as a potential stepping stone to the international stage.

“It was very exciting to be selected for the gold and to have it at home was very special,” Amy Martin said. “My family was able to come out so that was nice. It’s just very nice for my work to be recognized. It’s a big deal for us officials to be selected for those games because there are a lot of girls that have to sit out on the final day and to have it broadcasted on TSN is always a very neat experience. ”

Amy Martin (Referee), Stonewall – A level IV official,  transitioning to a Level V official, Amy currently officiates Canada U Sports, M-AAA and the Manitoba Women’s Junior Hockey League. Amy has experience lining the 2015 & 2016 Female World Sport School Challenge Gold Medal game, Women’s U-18 Championship, and numerous finals including Male Bantam AAA, Male City Midget AAA & Manitoba Women’s Junior Hockey League.  She has also lined for Female U18 POE games, Midget & Bantam AAA Female Showcases and Hockey Manitoba’s Director’s Cup. Her talented career on the ice is also noticed off the ice as Amy was the recipient of the Kenneth R. Stiles Memorial Scholarship in 2014 & 2016. This was the fourth year Amy has officiated for the National Women’s U-18 Championship.

Joanne Senecal (Linesman). Winnipeg – Senecal is a Level III official, transitioning to a Level IV official with experience lining in Canada U-Sports, M-AAA and the Manitoba Women’s Junior Hockey League. This was Joanne’s first time lining at the National Women’s U-18 Championship.
