Team Manitoba Female U-18 Leadership Group Announced

WINNIPEG – Hockey Manitoba is pleased to announce the leadership group for Female U-18 Team Manitoba. Sarah Dennehy (Winnipeg, MB) and Olivia Cvar (Stonewall, MB) will be Assistant Captain and lead Team MB at the 2019 Canada Winter Games taking place from February 23 – March 2 in Red Deer, AB.

Sarah Dennehy is currently playing with St. Mary’s Academy in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) where she serves as team captain.  This will be Sarah’s 3rd year competing with Team MB in a National event as she participated in the U18 National Championships in both Regina (2016) and Quebec City (2018).  Sarah has committed to the University of Manitoba (USports) where she will move on to play her post secondary hockey in the 2019-20 season.

Joining Dennehy will be Olivia Cvar who is currently playing on the Balmoral Hall Blazers of the Junior Women’s Hockey League (JWHL) where she serves as team captain. This will also be Olivia’s 3rd year competing with Team MB in a National event as she participated in the U18 National Championships in both Regina (2016) and Quebec City (2018). Olivia has committed to St. Cloud State University(NCAA) where she will move on to play her post secondary hockey in the 2019-20 season.

Team Manitoba head coach Reid Sloan feels that the experience level and maturity of both athletes will be a tremendous benefit while at a large scale event like the Canada Winter Games.

“Any time you have athletes who can lead by example based on experience it can provide that extra edge. Both Sarah and Olivia are tremendous leaders and have earnes the right to lead this team at the Canada Winter Games.

Team MB will hit the ice Sunday February 24th at the Servus Arena in downtown Red Deer as they kick-off their Canada Winter Games with their first round robin matchup against Team Saskatchewan at 12:30PM (MT).
