Under-16 and Under-18 Team Manitoba rosters announced

WINNIPEG- Hockey Manitoba is pleased to announce the 2012 Under-16 (U-16) & Under-18 (U-18) Team Manitoba rosters. The announcement completes the extensive Program of Excellence (POE) process that these players endeavoured beginning back in early April at the POE Spring Tournament. U-16 Team Manitoba is comprised of the province's top male players born in 1997, now playing in their first year of Midget hockey. Meanwhile the U-18 Team Manitoba roster has formed the province's best female players born in 1995 & 1996, primarily second and third year Midget players.

U-16 Team Manitoba is coming off a silver medal performance at the 2011 Western Canada Challenge Cup and will look to better that in 2012. Team Manitoba will travel November 1-4 to Calgary, AB to compete against the Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan for the right to earn western bragging rights. The U-16 program has been lead by Head Coach, Dan Eliasson, also of the Winnipeg Thrashers (M-Midget AAA). Eliasson has been joined by assistant coaches Brad Purdie of the Manitoba Bisons (M-CIS), Doug Sinclair from the Winnipeg Thrashers (M-Midget AAA), and Jason Bauer as video coach and also currently with the Winnipeg Thrashers (M-Midget AAA). The U-16 Team Manitoba roster features sixteen players who were drafted in the 2012 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft last May.

U-18 Team Manitoba is also coming off a medal performance as they earned a bronze in the 2011 National Women's U-18 Championships. Lead by Head Coach, Ashley van Aggelen, the U-18's will be looking to improve upon last year's result and look to compete in the gold medal game at the 2012 National Women's U-18 Championships, November 7-11 in Dawson Creek, BC. van Aggelen has been joined by assistant coaches Neil Chow of the Winnipeg Hawks (M-Bantam 1 AAA), Lisa Peters of the Manitoba Bisons (W-CIS), and Andrea Keating as video coach and currently with the Assiniboine Park Rangers (F-Bantam AA).
