November 2010 Volunteer of the Month

Edgar Stevenson – Peguis, MB (Interlake)

Edgar Stevenson hails from Peguis, Manitoba and has been associated with youth sports in excess of 27 years both in hockey and baseball. He is well known for transporting children from his community to sports events as far away as Brandon, as well as other remote areas.

Edgar not only shares his time and experience with the children but is an excellent role model and a valuable mentor for the children and youth he works with. He is also a valuable example for the adults in his community and the surrounding area by quietly and patiently sharing not only his time but also his expertise and enthusiasm for sports, as a healthy and safe activity for children.

Edgar is a certified Hockey Manitoba coach and has been volunteering his time in this regard for years. He is a valuable asset to the children in Peguis as they develop their skills each season.

Interlake Minor Hockey President, Kris Barrett, indicates that Edgar is a vital source of knowledge for the children, youth and adults he has known, as well as a provider of resources to ensure the children are able to experience positive activities while growing up.

Blair Fallis – St. Pierre, MB (EASTMAN)

Blair Fallis is from St. Pierre, Manitoba and has been an active hockey volunteer in the Eastman region for years. His contributions both locally and regionally go with saying and his involvement in the game is extensive:

1998 – 1999 Board member of the St. Pierre Minor Hockey Association

1999 – 2000 President of the St. Pierre Minor Hockey Association

2000 – Present President of the Rat River Minor Hockey Association

2003 – Present Board member of the St. Pierre Recreation Commission

2004 – 2007 Ritchot Centennial Minor Hockey League Executive

· Vice-president 2004 – 2005

· President 2005 – 2007

2008 – 2009 President – Eastman Minor Hockey Pee Wee League

2010 – Present Eastman Development Coordinator

In addition to his valuable contributions as indicated above he is a certified Hockey Manitoba coach and Safety person. For years he has spent time as a manager, coach or safety person with various teams in his local area. It is this type of commitment to the game that makes him an important resource within his community and region.
