2016 AAA PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS TO BE CROWNED

WINNIPEG, MB – Hockey Manitoba would like to acknowledge the following teams competing for the title of Provincial Champion in the Bantam and Midget AAA divisions. Three of the four AAA categories will lead to a berth in a regional championship:

Male Bantam AAA

The Male Bantam AAA Provincial Finals will be hosted by Hockey Winnipeg featuring the Brandon Wheat Kings and Winnipeg Monarchs.  Among the players in the Provincial final, there are a number of Western Hockey League prospects which include 22 players who have been invited to the first phase of Hockey Manitoba’s Program of Excellence. The two teams will playoff in a three-game series held March 18-20 at Seven Oaks Sportsplex with the winner advancing as the Hockey Manitoba representative to the Western Canadian Bantam Championships in Okotoks, AB. The Western Canada Bantam Championship annually features the provincial champions from Alberta, BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and a host team. Male Midget AAA (MMHL)

The Manitoba Midget Hockey League finals are underway with a highly anticipated match-up between the Winnipeg Wild and league-leading Eastman Selects. Among the players in the MMHL finals, there are 10 players who were a part of U-16 Team Manitoba in recent years (9 – Winnipeg Wild, 1 – Eastman Selects). The best-of-five series opened up on Thursday evening with the Wild coming out on top to take a 1-0 series lead. The winner of this series will represent Hockey Manitoba at the TELUS Cup West Regional Qualifier hosted March 31 – April 3 in Saskatoon, SK. The regional tournament will feature branch champion teams from Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, Saskatchewan, and a host club. The winner of the regional qualifier will advance to the TELUS Cup – Midget National Championship held April 18-24 in Quispamsis, NB. Click here for series schedule & results

Female Bantam AAA

The Female Bantam AAA Provincial Finals will feature the Hockey Winnipeg Female Bantam AA league champion St. Vital Victorias versus the Rural Female Bantam AAA Provincials champion Eastman Selects in a best-of-three game series. Female Midget AAA (MFMHL)

The Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League finals will get underway tonight with game 1 taking place in Portage La Prairie. The best-of-five series is a rematch from the 2015 finals which will feature the 1st place Yellowhead Chiefs taking on the 3rd place Central Plains Capitals who finished 4th at the 2015 Esso Cup. Among the players in the MFMHL finals, there are 5 players who were a part of U-18 Team Manitoba in recent years (2 – Yellowhead Chiefs, 3 – Central Plains Capitals). The series winner will represent Hockey Manitoba in the Esso Cup West Regional Qualifier hosted April 1-3 by the SFMHL champion in Saskatchewan. The qualifier will be a three-game series against the Saskatchewan provincial champion with the winner then advancing to the Esso Cup – National Female Midget Championship held April 17-23 in Weyburn, SK. Click here for series schedule & results
