2017 U-16 POE COACHES & SPRING CAMP ROSTERS ANNOUNCED

WINNIPEG, MB – Hockey Manitoba is pleased to announce the 2017 U-16 Team Manitoba coaching staff along with the rosters for the 2017 U-16 Program of Excellence Spring Camp held April 6-9 in Winnipeg, MB.  The Hockey Manitoba U-16 Program of Excellence (POE) is the provincial high performance development and selection program that leads to the formation of U-16 Team Manitoba.  The final U-16 Team Manitoba roster will compete at the 2017 Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup hosted by the Western Hockey League, October 18-22 in Calgary, AB.

Dan Eliasson (Winnipeg) will head up the coaching staff at the 2017 Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup. Eliasson spent the 2016-17 season assisting the Winnipeg Sharks (Bantam 1 AAA), he was previously head coach of U-16 Team Manitoba in 2012 and in 2011 coached the Winnipeg Thrashers (Midget AAA) to a TELUS Cup national championship victory.

Joining Eliasson on the bench will be Rob Bell (Winnipeg) and Tyler Riel (Winnipeg).  This past season Bell coached the Sturgeon Heights Huskies (WHSHL) meanwhile Riel was head coach of the Winnipeg Warriors (Bantam 2 AAA).

The U-16 POE Spring Camp will feature 108 invites from across the province.  The player list features 103 of the top prospects born in 2002 who are eligible for the 2017 Western Hockey League and Manitoba Junior Hockey League bantam drafts.  The invites also include 5 under-age players born in 2003 who have been identified as potentials to challenge for U-16 POE TOP-40 Camp and final roster spots. All players will take part in WHL Combine testing assessing on-ice skills and fitness, along with a team practice and 3 games over the event weekend at Seven Oaks Sportsplex and MTS Iceplex.
