2018 GLOBAL GIRLS’ GAME – FEMALE BANTAM PLAYERS OPPORTUNITY
WINNIPEG – Hockey Manitoba is proud to be taking part in the 2018 IIHF Girls’ Global Game hosted by the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) and Hockey Canada. The Girls’ Global Game is a IIHF initiative that focuses on bringing female players throughout the world together as teammates while working to grow the sport of female hockey.
Hockey Manitoba will be sending two players (1 forward, 1 goaltender) to participate in the Canadian segment of the Girls’ Global Game that will be taking place Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 5:30PM EST in Mississauga, ON, along with other special activities. Each player and a guardian’s flight and accommodations will be provided courtesy of Hockey Manitoba. Transportation and meals for the players are also covered by the OWHA while in Mississauga.
2018 Girls’ Global Game events begin the afternoon of March 10th and concludes on the evening of March 11th.
This is a once in a life time opportunity!
Application Information
All applicants for the 2018 Girls’ Global Game MUST be Bantam aged (13-14 yrs as of Dec. 31, 2017) at an A1 level or lower and be registered with Hockey Manitoba/Hockey Canada on a female hockey team in the 2017 – 2018 season.
Application deadline is February 7, 2018.
Manitoba’s two lucky participants will be selected and notified by February 9, 2018.
2017 Girls’ Global Game Highlights
In 2017, 38 countries participated in one game over the course of 2 days that united players across 6 continents as teammates! Each country had two teams that represented Team Blue and Team White and accumulated a score that was tallied as the games traveled West from New Zealand all the way until the big finale here in Canada. Our players became teammates with other girls from all over the World!
- Players got the opportunity to hear from members of the National Women’s Team alumnae such as Vicky Sunohara, Margot Page, Cherie Piper, Teresa Hutchinson and Cathy Phillips.
- Players toured the Hockey Hall of Fame and were met by long-time friend of the OWHA Ron Ellis.
- Players attended the USports game between Brock Badgers and Toronto Varsity Blues at the legendary Varsity Arena in Toronto.
