APRIL 2014 VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH
Jason Thorpe – Brandon
Jason has spent 10 years behind the benches of various levels of teams in Brandon over the past 15 years. He has coached Novice through Bantam, house league through to AA. Jason epitomizes what coaches should be: energetic, committed, fair and respected.
Jason’s value to Hockey Brandon goes far beyond coaching, however. Jason stepped up to spend six years on the Hockey Brandon executive serving in various roles with the most recent being the second vice-president. Jason has also taken on a lead role on the Tournament of Champions committee, working tirelessly to ensure that event’s success and its long term viability.
Jason has recently resigned from his second VP role to focus on other volunteer activities.
Hockey Manitoba and Hockey Brandon congratulate Jason Thorpe as an April 2014 Volunteer of the Month.
Teresa Bell – Westman South
Mrs. Bell has volunteered to be the canteen coordinator in Deloraine, MB for the last several years. She doesn’t get very much recognition because unlike coaches and referees, all her work is done behind the scenes or when no one is at the rink. She is very good at what she does and goes out of her way to make sure the canteen is always stocked and ready to go. She also makes sure that when a big event or tournament is scheduled, there is always something “special” on the menu for the weekend. Many people will actually stop by the rink to see what’s on the menu.
Mrs. Bell also schedules the canteen workers for local Senior, AAA Midget, Bantam or female games that may be in the rink. Quite simply, without her, the canteen in Deloraine Minor Hockey Association would not run as smoothly or be as successful as it currently is.
Hockey Manitoba and the Westman South region congratulate Teresa Bell as an April 2014 Volunteer of the Month.
