WINNIPEG- Local on-ice official Brett Montsion has been invited to the 2011/12 NHL Officials Training Camp in Collingwood, ON. Montsion, a native of Winnipeg, will join other officiating prospects as well as current NHL officials September 10-11 which will be his first time at the NHL level. The camp will feature off-ice tests such as medical and fitness testing along with on-ice development and skating sessions, with the opportunity to be added to the NHL Officials roster for this season.

Bill Whitehead, Vice-President of Hockey Manitoba, comments on Montsion’s invite; “it is exciting to have a local product being provided the opportunity to potentially advance his skills to the professional ranks, we’re please that yet another official from the Hockey Manitoba system will be recognized at an elite level and hope it inspires other young officials to chase their dreams.”

Montsion has worked as an official in the WHL the last two seasons as well as the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) including ANAVET Cup assignments. Brett played his minor hockey through the St. James Minor Hockey Association and is currently a Business student at the University of Manitoba’s Asper School of Business. Other Manitobans expected to be at the camp are current NHL Officials, Ryan Galloway (Winnipeg) and Vaughan Rody (Winnipeg).
