CANADA WELL REPRESENTED AT THE 2005 IIHF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CAMP

CALGARY – Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday the selection of four players (born in 1990), one coach and one official who will represent Canada at the 2005 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Youth Development Camp in Vierumaki, Finland, July 3 to 9, 2005.

A total of 140 athletes (born in 1990) will represent 54 IIHF Member Federations, at the 2005 Youth Development Camp. This is the fourth time the event is being held by the IIHF, since the inaugural Camp in Nymberg, CZE in 1999.

The following players where chosen by their respective Branches, as Canada’s participants for this IIHF camp:

Tyler MacDonald (Prince Edward Island Hockey Association) – Charlottetown, PEI – Goaltender – Sherwood Falcons Bantam AAA team.

Tom Jobson (Ontario Hockey Federation – Alliance) – Glencoe, ON – Forward – Elgin Middlesex Chiefs Bantam ‘AAA’.

Scott McDonald (Hockey Nova Scotia) – Waverly NS – Defenseman – Bedford Blues Bantam AAA Team

Derek Lee (British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association) – North Vancouver, BC – Forward – North Shore Winter Club Bantam AAA hockey club.

The IIHF Youth Development Camp also provides a unique development opportunity for coaches and officials. Canada’s representatives for officiating and coaching at the IIHF Youth Development Camp, both from the province of BC, are:

OFFICIAL: Brandon Liefke – Vernon, BC. Brandon, HCOP Level 4, is an experienced BCAHA official and has officiated games in the KIJHL (Jr. B), BCHL (Jr. A) and the WHL. Brandon is currently the referee-in-chief for the Greater Vernon Minor Hockey Association, and has instructed summer officiating clinics for the BCAHA and the Hockey Canada Officiating Program.

COACH: Craig Bedard – Osoyoos, BC. Craig was recently named the head coach of Team Pacific for the 2006 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and Team BC for the 2007 Canada Winter Games. Craig currently serves as an assistant coach with the Penticton Vees in the BCHL league. He is an NCCP High Performance II certified coach and has completed the CAC Level III Theory program. Craig has also spent time as a mentor coach in the BCAHA Program of Excellence.
