December 2012 Volunteer of the Month – Brent McMillan (WSouth)
Brent is a local boy who grew up in the RM of North Cypress just east of Carberry, MB. He’s made the trek to play many a Carberry minor hockey game growing up and his love of the game has not faded.
He has been a coach with Carberry minor hockey for 7 years. His coaching career started in 2003-2004 coaching squirts for his son Josh’s team and continued on as follows: 2004-2006 Novice, 2006-2008 Atoms and 2008-2010 Pee Wee.
In 2011 he became the S.W.H.L Convener and is still continues to hold that post.
He co-chaired the Bantam Tournament of Champions in 2010, became Chair in 2011 and is chairing this year’s tournament which will be held in January. Carberry has not had a Bantam team for the past two years so in order to keep the tournament in town, Brent has taken this to task and has a team to work with to keep this tournament running.
After coaching for seven years he decided to take on the additional task of being a referee. He has been a certified official for 3 years starting in 2010 and his services are in high demand.
Brent has also been actively involved with the Carberry Minor Hockey Executive. He has been Referee-in-Chief for the past two years, Vice President in 2007-2008, President from 2008-2009, Past President from 2009-2011, and has volunteered his time in many other capacities previous to this for many years.
Hockey Manitoba and Westman South Minor Hockey congratulates Brent McMillan as the Hockey Manitoba December 2012 Volunteer of the Month presented by Awards & More.
