WINNIPEG, MB- Hockey Manitoba is pleased to release the U-16 and U-18 Program of Excellence final evaluation rosters. A total of twenty-two players remain in the female under-18 program, meanwhile a total of twenty-six players remain in the mix with the male under-16 program. These players will continue to compete for a potential spot on their respective Team Manitoba roster to be named later this fall.
The under-16 program will hold a final camp August 8-11 in Winnipeg as the final in-person evaluation before the beginning of 2012-13 hockey season. The final camp will see extensive work on team building, systems, and philosophies over the four day period with the final Team Manitoba roster named in early October. Team Manitoba will compete at the 2012 Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup in Calgary, AB hosted by the Western Hockey League and the four western Hockey Canada branches (Alberta, BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan), November 1-4. Last season Team Manitoba finished the tournament with a silver medal.
In early fall the under-18 program will host their final evaluation session with an exhibition series against the University of Manitoba Bisons (Women), September 14-16 in Winnipeg. Similar to the under-16 program, this final gathering will see extensive team building along with continued implementation of team systems and philosophies into game situations. The final roster will be announced in late September with Team Manitoba competing at the 2012 National U-18 Women's Championships hosted by Hockey Canada, November 7-11 in Dawson Creek, BC. Team Manitoba earned a bronze medal at the championships last season.
