Female Hockey Festival this weekend in Winnipeg and Brandon!

Hockey Manitoba is pleased to host the 2010 Female Hockey Festival this long weekend, February 13-15th, in Brandon and Winnipeg. Over 250 females will take part in various hockey development programs/events hosted by Hockey Manitoba with all events free of charge to participants.This year’s festival unofficially kicks off tonight during Hockey Night in Manitoba when the Manitoba Moose take on the Toronto Marlies. Over 200 Female Hockey Festival participants were given complimentary tickets to tonight’s game courtesy of Hockey Manitoba. The actual festival programs/events will begin Sunday evening with the Female Recruitment – Esso Fun Day and the Female Officials Seminar at MTS Centre.

The Female Recruitment – Esso Fun Day is a program that gives females the opportunity to try hockey for the day, and this case the evening, in a fun and safe environment. Participants will take part in both on-ice and off-ice hockey sessions at MTS Centre and will be joined by former Olympic World Champion, Sami Jo Small. Also taking place Sunday evening is the Female Officials Seminar which is an event that will see young female officials interact with our province’s top female officials during on-ice and off-ice development sessions.

On Monday the festival will feature Skills Camps takingplace coincidingin Brandon (Keystone Centre)and Winnipeg (MTS Centre). The Skills Camps will collectively host 150 young female hockey players aged from 7-12 years old. These participants will also take part in both on-ice and off-ice player skill development sessions throughout the day. Hockey Manitoba will also host all-female coach certification clinics taking place in both Brandon and Winnipeg on Monday. Over 50 females will become certified with the NCCP Coach Level certification by taking part in the "We Are Coaches" clinics.

The Winnipeg portion of the event will also see a luncheon take place on Monday afternoon with special guest and former World Women’s Hockey Champion, Delaney Collins. Collins will also be a guest instructor for the Winnipeg Skills Camp on-ice sessions throughout Monday. Also featured in Winnipeg will be the Female Midget AA Skills Showcase which will see various female players from Winnipeg and surrounding areas compete in a skills competition on MTS Centre ice.
