U-16 Female Team Manitoba Roster Announced

WINNIPEG – Hockey Manitoba are very excited to announce the roster for the 2018 Female U16 Team Manitoba. The roster was selected following the July Selection camp which took place July 6-8 at the BellMTS Iceplex in Winnipeg. With a mixture of returning players as well as some exciting first year bantam athletes the coaching staff are very excited about what the future holds for this talented group of 2003’s and 2004’s.

FEMALE U-16 TEAM MANITOBA

Below are a few highlights for the 2018 U16 Team Manitoba roster:

  • This year’s roster sees a mix of 9 athletes from teams within Hockey Winnipeg and 11 from programs within rural Manitoba.
  • The roster is highlighted by three returning forwards (Ashley Keller, Madelaine Desrosiers and Shaylee Scraba) who were all members of the 2017 Female U16 Team Manitoba.
  • Of the 20 athletes selected, five will be going into their second year of bantam hockey.

Team Manitoba are being led once again by head coach John Ferg (Central Plains) who returns after serving as the head coach of the Inagural Female U16 Team Manitoba. Joining him will be returning assistant coach Kelsi McGonigal (Winnipeg) and former video coach Troy Gould (Westman South) who is moving into the position of Assistant Coach. The coaching staff are very excited about the talent level that has been on display throughout selection camps and look forward to what this group will accomplish going forward.

The final challenge for Team Manitoba will come in early September as they travel to Swift Current, SK to participate in the Swift Current Wildcats Preseason Tournament September 7-9, 2018. The highlight of this tournament will be a match up between U16 Team Manitoba and U16 Team Saskatchewan which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday September 8th.

The Female Program of Excellence is designed to provide high performance female players with the opportunity to develop advanced skills as well as an introduction to the concepts needed to play at an elite level. Players from the Program of Excellence go on to play at the CIS, NCAA and International level.
