HAWRYLUK NAMED WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Brandon Wheat Kings forward Jayce Hawryluk has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 6th, 2016.

Hawryluk recorded 16 points (10g-6a) in four games to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a perfect 4-0-0-0 record for the week.

On Wednesday, March 2nd  against the Saskatoon Blades, Hawryluk recorded a career-high five goals and added an assist to cap off a six-point outing in Brandon’s 12-2 victory. Hawryluk also earned a plus-7 rating and was named the game’s first star. On Friday, March 4th, Hawryluk collected three points (1g-2a) to lead the Wheat Kings to a 6-3 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors. The following night, Hawryluk recorded four points (2g-2a) to propel the Wheat Kings to a 7-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors. On Sunday, March 6th, Hawryluk capped off an impressive week with another multiple point performance as he tallied three points (2g-1a) to earn second star honours in Brandon’s 8-1 victory over the Regina Pats.

The 20-year-old Roblin, MB native has collected 95 points (40g-55a) to go along with a solid plus-52 rating in 53 games this season and sits fourth overall in scoring amongst all WHL skaters. The 5-10, 194 lb forward is in his fourth WHL campaign with Brandon and has amassed 267 points (112g-155a) in 227 career WHL regular season contests.

The WHL has also nominated Connor Ingram of the Kamloops Blazers for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Ingram, a 1997-born netminder from Imperial, SK posted a record of 3-0-0-0 with a 1.33 goals against average and a .969 save percentage with one shutout. On Wednesday, March 2nd, Ingram turned aside all 27 shots he faced to lead the Kamloops Blazers to a 5-0 shutout victory over the Spokane Chiefs. On Friday, March 4th, Ingram was consistent as he stopped 53 of 55 shots against the Kelowna Rockets to guide the Blazers to a 3-2 win. Ingram was named the game’s first star for his performance. The following night against the Rockets, Ingram remained productive as he turned aside 44 shots to earn first star honours and lead the Blazers to their second consecutive 3-2 victory. Currently in his second WHL campaign, Ingram has posted a 50-36-7-7 record with seven shutouts in 108 career WHL regular season appearances.
