HOCKEY MANITOBA ANNOUNCES EVALUATION ROSTERS

HOCKEY MANITOBA is pleased to release the names of the players (Male and Female) who have been selected to remain on the EVALUATION ROSTERS for the MALE 2006 TEAM WESTERN UNDER 17 TEAM and the FEMALE 2005 TEAM MANITOBA UNDER 18 TEAM. These players will continue to be monitored throughout the early part of the 2005/2006 season while playing for their respective club teams.

The Male Program of Excellence selects eleven players from Manitoba along with eleven players from Saskatchewan to be part of the final team roster for TEAM WESTERN that will be announced in late October/early November 2005. TEAM WESTERN, the defending gold medallists captured the championship for the first time last January in Lethbridge, Alberta, will compete at the 2006 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Regina, Saskatchewan December 28th – January 5th, 2006. Four Regional Hockey Canada teams (Pacific, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic) as well as USA, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Finland and Germany will join Team Western for this prestigious tournament.

TEAM WESTERN will be led by Head Coach – Del Pedrick of Swan River, MB and Assistant Coaches – Troy Leslie of Melita, MB and Blaine Sautner of North Battleford, Sask.

TEAM MANITOBA Head Coach – Keri Yackel of East St. Paul, MB with her Assistant Coaches – Terry Arksey of Dauphin, MB and Peter Woods of Winnipeg, MB will assess the evaluation roster when they compete in a tournament at University of Manitoba scheduled for September 23 – 25, 2005. The top twenty females from Manitoba will be selected from this tournament to form TEAM MANITOBA. The team will compete in the 2005 Women’s National Under 18 Championship in Salmon Arm, BC from November 9 – 13, 2005.

This is a great opportunity for both the male and female teams to be evaluated by Hockey Canada scouts for inclusion in the national team programs.
