Winnipeg – Hockey Manitoba would like to announce the following tournament hosts for the 2017 Keystone Cup – Western Canadian Junior B Championship and the TELUS Cup West Regional.

The 2017 Keystone Cup – Western Canadian Junior B Championship will take place in Arborg, MB from April 13-16, 2017.  The Keystone Cup attracts thousands of players and fans from Western Canada.  Competing at the Keystone Cup will be the Arborg Ice Dawgs of the KJHL as the host team and qualifying teams from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba & Northwestern Ontario.  This will be the ninth time that Manitoba hosts the Keystone Cup with the last time being in 2013 when the St. Malo Jr. B Warriors hosted the tournament.  The Arborg Ice Dawgs have competed at the Keystone Cup twice (2011 & 2012) in their brief history.  Teams from Manitoba have won the Keystone Cup twice and captured silver four times.

The 2017 TELUS Cup West Regional will be hosted by the Eastman Selects (MMHL) from March 30-April 2, 2017 in Steinbach, MB.  The Eastman Selects will be joined by qualifying teams from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northern Ontario.  The winner will represent the West at the 2017 TELUS Cup – National Midget Championship taking place in Prince George, B.C from April 24-30, 2017.  Teams from Manitoba have won the TELUS Cup twice (Brandon Wheat Kings, 2004 & Winnipeg Thrashers, 2011) and captured silver once (Winnipeg Thrashers, 2008) since the tournaments name change in 2004 from the Air Canada Cup.

Hockey Manitoba president Bill Whitehead comments, “We are very excited to host these prestigious tournaments in our province.”  Bill also mentioned, “This is a great opportunity to showcase our many talented players at a high level of competition and I am confident that the communities of Arborg and Steinbach will do an exceptional job of hosting.” Teams will begin to challenge for a spot at these tournaments starting in October once their regular seasons begin.
