WINNIPEG, MB – Hockey Manitoba is excited to announce a new Season Opener event to take place September 27-29, 2013 at Radisson Downtown Winnipeg by Canad Inns. The new event expands upon what used to be the Hockey Manitoba Fall Board Meetings and has changed format to provide opportunity for all stakeholders in the game across Manitoba to receive more education and insight into the game of hockey. The anticipated annual event is hoped to bring a festival-like atmosphere in commencing the start of the new hockey season geared towards the sport’s volunteers, parents, and coaches. Over the past year, Hockey Manitoba’s Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and staff have been reviewing potential changes to its governance structure in effort to provide more efficient and directed leadership for the organization. As an additional component of this revised governance structure, the previous Fall Board Meeting structure will be modified in an effort to better service all members and volunteers.
The 2013-14 Season Opener will feature a social gathering and hot stove session during the evening of September 27th with some of Canada’s top hockey and sports leaders such as Bob Nicholson (President/CEO of Hockey Canada), Jeff Hnatiuk (CEO of Sport Manitoba), Ron Robison (Commissioner of Western Hockey League), Dr. Cal Botterill (renowned sports psychologist) staff personnel of the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club among others.
Day two of the event, September 28th, will host the Information Forum & Tradeshow featuring a special State of the Game interview with Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson and presentations on Concussion Prevention & Management with Dr. Glen Bergeron, Keys for Optimal Player Development – Growth & Development Principles with Dr. Stephen Norris, Pathways to the WHL with Commissioner Ron Robison and others by Hockey Manitoba executive and staff. Participants will also enjoy a luncheon and tradeshow on the Saturday of the event.
The weekend will conclude on September 29th with Hockey Manitoba Council meetings for delegates which essentially replaces the previous setting for Fall Board of Directors Meetings to conduct pertinent business around that time of year.
Online registration for the 2013-14 Season Opener begins on August 9th and concludes September 24th. REGISTRATION IS FREE! which includes an all-access pass (Fri-Sat), registration package, lanyard, Friday night hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, and Saturday luncheon, and entry to win many prizes including a pair of 2013-14 Winnipeg Jets tickets. It is encouraged that all regional associations, minor hockey associations, community clubs and leagues, send a minimum of two delegates. Hockey Manitoba also emphasizes to all volunteers, parents, coaches, players, officials, and partners to join the festivities at the Season Opener.
