HOCKEY MANITOBA PROGRAM OF EXCELLENCE SUMMER EVALUATION ROSTERS
Hockey Manitoba is pleased to announce the names of 68 male and 68 female players (plus exemptions) who have been selected to attend the 2005 Program of Excellence Summer Camp. The University of Manitoba and the Max Bell Centre in Winnipeg will play host to both camps, the male occurring June 28th – July 3rd, 2005, while the female takes place June 29th – July 3rd, 2005. The Male Program consists of Manitoba’s top 16 year old players (born in 1989). The top eleven selected players from Manitoba will combine with Saskatchewan’s top eleven to form TEAM WESTERN. The team will compete in the 2006 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge taking place Dec. 29-Jan. 4, 2006 in Regina, SK.
Team Western is the defending gold medalists, having captured the championship for the first time last January in Lethbridge, Alberta. The team will be lead by Head Coach Del Pedrick of Swan River, MB. The Assistant Coaches will be Troy Leslie of Melita, MB and Blaine Sautner of North Battleford, SK.
The Female Program is comprised of players born in 1988 and 1989. The top twenty females from this program will go on to form TEAM MANITOBA. The team will compete in the 2005 Women’s National Under 18 Championships in Salmon Arm, BC taking place November 9 – 13, 2005.
At last year’s championship, Team Manitoba captured fifth, posting a 3-2 record in the process. The Head Coach of Team Manitoba is Keri Yackel of Winnipeg. Yackel will be joined on the bench by Assistant Coaches Terry Arksey of Dauphin and Peter Woods of Winnipeg.
The Program of Excellence is the first step for these players to be evaluated by Hockey Canada scouts for inclusion in future national team programs.
