Hockey Manitoba seeks volunteers to serve on Appeals/Hearings Committee

by Hockey Manitoba  |  August 2, 2024 11:00 am

Hockey Manitoba is an established sport organization that has thrived on solid and consistent administration and governance, serving over 30,000 members throughout our province.

It is essential that both volunteers and staff make a concerted effort without bias or prejudice when applying the rules and policies of Hockey Manitoba.  This ensures a fair and consistent voice in the application when interpreting the rules, regulations, and policies of our organization.  Unification and “one common voice” builds a stronger organization.

An essential component of sound governance and proper justice is to allow members the opportunity to have their voices heard through the process of appeal.  Likewise, members deserve the right to be treated properly within the established structure when they may be in breach of the prevailing By-Laws, Regulations, or Playing Rules.

An important and vital element of this structure is to have knowledgeable, fair minded, and judicious volunteers to serve on the Hockey Manitoba Appeals and Hearings Committee to ensure justice is properly executed.

Currently, the Hockey Manitoba Appeals and Hearings Committee is comprised of three independent volunteers which we are looking to expand further by appointing three additional detached and nonpartisan members to serve as a committee member for our organization.  A modest stipend will be provided.

Hockey Manitoba is seeking people who are interested in serving a progressive, dynamic, and established organization that possess the following qualities,

*   Integrity                                                 *   Judicial Temperament

*   Ethical                                                    *   Experience and ability to effectively communicate

*   Intelligence                                           *   Courage

Hockey Manitoba strongly believes in continuing to build a foundation that anticipates and responds to the changing face and needs of the members we serve.  Our organization supports and embraces a diverse, equitable, and inclusive (EDI) ecosystem and encourages all qualified and interested candidates to submit a brief resume and cover letter to Peter Woods, Executive Director at pwoods@hockeymanitoba.ca by the deadline of August 21, 2024.

By focusing our efforts Hockey Manitoba will be able to support inclusive practices, attract and retain a diverse volunteer workforce, needed to combat all forms of discrimination – both on and off the ice, while engaging with our diverse communities and members across the province.
