U-16 Female Team Manitoba set for Swift Current Wildcats tournament this weekend
WINNIPEG, MB – Hockey Manitoba’s Female U-16 Program of Excellence team will travel to Swift Current, Saskatchewan this weekend to compete in the Swift Current Wildcats pre-season tournament. This is the third year that Hockey Manitoba will be sending a team to the tournament which features AAA teams from Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Team Manitoba will kick off the tournament Friday night at 8:15 pm with a game against U-16 Team Saskatchewan. Manitoba will play two more games on Saturday night against the Swift Current Wildcats (6:00 pm start) and on Sunday morning against the Weyburn Gold Wings (9:00 am puck drop).
The roster for the Female U-16 Team Manitoba consists of two goaltenders, six defencemen and 12 forwards. Team Manitoba’s Head Coach is Troy Gould with Grady Stephenson and Jenelle Kohanchuk serving as assistant coaches. Team Manitoba’s Captain for the tournament is Quinn McLaren (Pembina Valley Hawks) with Dana Goertzen (Balmoral Hall), Kara Yackel (Winnipeg Titans) and Norah Collins (St. Vital Vics) serving as associate captains.

“This tournament gives our U-16 team an opportunity to play against the top girls in Saskatchewan and allows them to see where they are at in their development and where they want to go and helps them lead into Nationals for the U-18 program in the future.” said U-16 Team Manitoba Head Coach Troy Gould.
