Jim resides in Cardale, MB and has been involved in the game of hockey as a volunteer for many years. He coached out of Tri-Town Minor Hockey Association for years and has been the Manager for the Yellowhead Chiefs AAA Midget Hockey team for the past three years. The first season he held the position as manager, his son was playing on the team. However, he enjoyed being involved with the club so that after his son graduated, he remained on as manager.
Jim gives much of his personal time to hockey, specifically with the Yellowhead Chiefs, as there is an enormous amount of planning, organizing and reporting that is required. He begins preparing early in the summer each year well before the hockey itself has begun. Jim also travels to all away games, joining the team on road trips to make sure that everything is well organized for the players and coaching staff. It is easy to see Jim’s love for the game of hockey and his unselfish commitment to his team throughout each season. His time and efforts are certainly recognized by the Yellowhead Chiefs AAA Midget Parent Committee.
Hockey Manitoba congratulates Jim Fortune as the March 2009 Volunteer of the Month.
