MANITOBA CONTINGENT READY FOR 2016 U18 WOMEN’S WORLDS

Five (5) Manitoba-born players will be suiting up to represent Canada at the 2016 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship starting this weekend in St. Catharines, ON.

The players selected from Manitoba include:

Jalyn Elmes (Defence), Brandon – Elmes currently plays with the Yellowhead Chiefs of the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League (MFMHL). Jalyn has accumulated 7 pts (3G & 4A) while serving as captain for her Chiefs.  Elmes returned for her 2nd year with Team Manitoba in and helped bring back a silver medal from the 2015 National Women’s U18 Championship in November.

Ryleigh Houston (Forward), Winnipeg – Houston is a member of the Balmoral Hall Blazers (Prep) who play in the Junior Women’s Hockey League. Houston is an Assistant Captain and leads her team with 30 PTS (17G & 13A) in 14 games. Ryleigh joined Team Manitoba for her 2nd time to help win a silver medal at the 2015 National Women’s U18 Championship.

Kayla Friesen (Forward), Winnipeg – Friesen is captain of the St. Mary’s Academy Flames (Prep), and leads them with 43 PTS (16G & 27A) in 26 games this season. Kayla also enjoyed winning a silver medal at the 2015 National Women’s U18 Championship as she joined Team Manitoba for her 2nd time in 2 years.

Ashton Bell (Forward), Deloraine – Bell currently plays with the league leading Westman Wildcats of the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League (MFMHL)as an Assistant Captain she leads the league with 35 PTS (24G & 11A) in 18 games. Ashton returned to Team Manitoba for her 2nd time to help win the silver medal at the 2015 National Women’s U18 Championships.

Sheridan Oswald (Forward), Macgregor – Oswald currently plays with the Central Plains Capitals of the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League (MFMHL) Sheridan leads her team with 23 PTS (12G & 11A) in 15 games, while wearing an “A” for the Capitals. Oswald returned for the 3rd time with Team Manitoba this past year to help win the silver medal at the 2015 National Women’s U18 Championships.

Team Canada is set to open up tournament group play Friday night versus Russia (6:30PM CT):

08-Jan 6:30PM Canada vs Russia
09-Jan 6:30PM Canada vs Czech Republic
11-Jan 6:30PM United States vs Canada
