Mark Stone named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Mark Stone of the Brandon Wheat Kings is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 21. Stone tallied 13 points in three games including four goals and nine assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.
Stone hit the ice last Tuesday night with the best game of his WHL career scoring two goals and adding four assists for six points as first star of a 7-4 win over the WHL’s top team the Saskatoon Blades. He followed that up with three points on Friday night including a goal and two assists as part of a 10-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos in the first half of a home-and-home series. Stone picked up four points on Saturday to wrap up his week and the series against the Broncos with a 6-5 win where he was named first star with a goal and three assists to extend his point streak to 11 straight games.
Stone, an 18-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is playing in his third full season with the Wheat Kings. Selected by the Ottawa Senators in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Stone currently sits third in WHL scoring with 86 points in 60 games.
2011 NHL Entry Draft prospect Sean Couturier of the Drummondville Voltigeurs was also considered for the award after scoring five goals in two games. Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Greg McKegg of the Erie Otters was nominated from the OHL for the third time this season after scoring four goals and four assists for eight points in three games.
