Memo from Hockey Manitoba Referee-in-Chief:
The Okanagan School of Officiating is an officiating school instructed by NHL officials for the growth and development of all who attend. This past year saw the School being purchased by Vaughan Rody and his business partner Rob Stefaniuk. They felt they would like to expand the camp and make it more economically feasible fora greater number of officials to attend. As a result they are hosting an Officiating School in Spruce Grove, AB in May and Winnipeg, MB in June.
Vaughan started his officiating career in Winnipeg as did two of the other instructors, Ryan Galloway and Rob Martell. When I was approched by Vaughan about the feasibility of bringing a professional officiating camp to Manitoba I was excited about the opportunities it would provide. In my presentation to the Hockey Manitoba executive, I requested their support and endorsement of this endeavour. The Camp was endorsed by the Branch and as a result:
1) Any official who registers and attends the camp will be allowed to use the camp in lieu of attending a certification clinic in the fall for the 2011-12 seson. Candidates will still have to register, pay their registration & membership dues and complete a current Hockey Canada exam to complete their registration.
2) To encourage participation and the development of our officials Hockey Manitoba will support each currently registered official who attends the Okanagan School of Officiating Camp in Winnipeg in the amount of a $100 rebate on their registration. (The refund will be distributed at the School.) This very generous support amounts to 25% of the Camp registration.
As outlined in the brochure below, more details and the registration forms can be found at the official website.
If an officiating camp is in your plans then I encourage youto consider this camp – grow your skills and become a better official!
