PATS’ BROOKS NAMED WHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Regina Pats forward Adam Brooks has been named the WHL Player of the Month for March 2017.
Brooks, a 20-year-old product of Winnipeg, MB, registered 34 points (13G-21A) in 14 games to help the Regina Pats lock up the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as WHL Regular Season Champions before moving on to sweep the Calgary Hitmen in the opening round of the 2017 WHL Playoffs. Powered by Brooks, the Pats won eight consecutive games to close the regular season before then emerging victorious in the first four contests of their post-season foray.
In March, the veteran pivot put forth 10 multipoint performances in 10 regular-season games, as well as one multipoint performance in four playoff games. Brooks’ outstanding end to the regular season was highlighted on Friday, March 17, as he posted four points (2G-2A) in a 7-1 win versus Brandon. He then started the 2017 WHL Playoffs with a bang, notching four points (2G-2A) on Friday, March 24, in a 5-2 win versus Calgary in Game 1 of their best-of-seven first-round series.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound centre is in the midst of a 14-game point streak, which dates back to Friday, March 3. Over that stretch, Brooks has collected first-star recognition four times, second-star honours twice as well as one third-star selection.
Brooks finished the 2016-17 season second in the Canadian Hockey League in overall scoring with 130 points (43G-87A) to his credit over 66 games as he fell just short of catching teammate Sam Steel, who finished the campaign with 131 points (50G-81A) in 66 games.
This is Brooks’ second WHL Player of the Month honours as he was previously recognized in November 2016.
A fourth-round pick (92nd) of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2016 NHL Draft, Brooks won the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL’s scoring leader with 120 points (38G-82A) in 72 games.
Originally selected by the Regina Pats in the second round (25th) of the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft, Brooks has logged 335 points (119A-216A) in 317 career WHL regular season contests.
