Pembina Valley Hawks heading to Esso Cup Regional qualifier
The Pembina Valley Hawks have repeated as MFMHL champions with a hard fought 1-0 win over the Westman Wildcats in Hartney on Sunday.
Cassidy Carels scored the games only goal with 7:51 remaining in the second period on a screen shot, it was Carels 10th goal of the playoffs giving her 19 points to lead all scorers. Brittni Mowat took the Hawks the rest of way as stopped all 27 shots fired her way to record the shut out giving the Hawks the 3-1 best of 5 series win. The Wildcats won game 3 in Morden 4-3 while the Hawks took game 1 3-1 and game 2 2-1 in OT in a very competitive series.
The Hawks now wait to host the Saskatchewan winner in the Western Regional scheduled for April 5-7 with the anticipated location being Morden. The Hawks are the defending Esso Cup – Female Midget National champions.
