GATINEAU, QC – The Saskatoon Contacts (West) have captured the inaugural TELUS Cup National Midget Championship with a 4-1 win over the host team, Gatineau.

Nick Kalnicki led the way for Saskatoon as he had one goal and two assists, including the game winning goal on a power play.

Saskatoon took a 3-0 led after scoring the first two goals 22 seconds apart in the first period. Gatineau responded when Langelier-Parent was able to slip one by the Contacts goalie Travis Yonkman with just over a minute remaining in the first period to bring Gatineau to within two.

Only Saskatoon forward David Richard was able to score during the second period, which put the team representing the West Region up for good 4-1.

Neither goalie allowed a goal in the final period as the Saskatoon Contacts were able to secure the National Championship with a 4-1 victory over Gatineau. This was Saskatoon’s fifth title of the season including the prestigious Mac’s Midget Tournament. Gatineau did a fantastic job hosting and had a silver medal finish to end an outstanding championship.

After a five goal third period outburst, the Commandeurs de Levis (Quebec) defeated the Don Mills Flyers (Central) 7-4 to win the bronze medal earlier today.
