September 2012 Volunteer of the Month – Brad Kirk (Eastman)
Brad played minor hockey in Morden, MB as part of a hockey family where his younger brother played, his dad played senior hockey with the Morden Bombers and coached minor hockey, and where both of his parents were involved with the “administration” side of minor hockey.
Brad’s wife and two children moved to Ste. Anne, MB in the summer of 2007 and he has been involved with hockey in Ste. Anne ever since. He has been actively involved in the sport as a coach, on the local minor hockey board and also tries to play the game himself when afforded the chance. His specific involvement over the years in Ste. Anne has included:
· Coaching from Initiation up to Female Pee Wee
· President of Ste. Anne Minor Hockey – 2009 to present
· President of the Carillon Hockey League (minor hockey) – 2010 to 2012
· Helped establish a recreational hockey and learn-to-skate program in the community
· Chair of exceptional parent group who hosted a successful Female Atom A Provincials in March 2012
Brad indicates that without the support of his wife Nancy and kids, the involvement in the sport would not be possible. He also highlights the great work and dedication by members of the Ste. Anne Minor Hockey board who help to plan and deliver the sport in the community. He recognizes the Eastman Minor Hockey Executive Committee who has always been there to answer his questions and provide guidance as their collective experience is invaluable. Brad would also like to thank his employer, Investors Group, for affording him the opportunity to take the time to be involved in our great sport.
Hockey Manitoba and Eastman Minor Hockey congratulates Brad Kirk as the September 2012 Hockey Manitoba Volunteer of the Month.
The Volunteer of the Month is proudly sponsored by Awards & More, official partner of Hockey Manitoba.
