The Team Manitoba Female Under – 18 team posted their second victory in as many tries at the Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse with a 7-2 win over Nova Scotia on Wednesday. A complete copy of the game summary can be found here.

The win means that Team Manitoba finishes first in their pool and third in the overall standings. With Nova Scotia finishing sixth in the overall standings, the two teams will meet again in a rematch on Thursday with the winner advancing to Friday’s semi-finals. Thursday’s quarterfinal game against Nova Scotia can be seen via tape delay on TSN beginning at 11:00 PM CST.

Manitoba jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on powerplay goals by Oak Bluff’s Rebecca Hewett and St. Anne’s Bailey Bram. The teams would trade goals in the second as Pierson’s Nellie Minshull and Winnipeg’s Chelsea Karpenko both scored for Team Toba as they carried a 4-2 lead into the third.

In the third it was more Manitoba as Jenelle Kohanchuk and Katie Wilson, both of Winnipeg, along with Karpenko, would all beat Nova Scotia goalie Ashley Boutilier for the 7-2 victory.

Winnipeg’s Delayne Brian was victorious in net for Manitoba making 17 saves as Manitoba outshot Nova Scotia 48-19.

The winner of the Manitoba-Nova Scotia game will meet the winner of the Saskatchewan-New Brunswick quarterfinal, while the winner of the Ontario-Newfoundland game will play off against the winner of Quebec-BC.
