Toews brings second Stanley Cup back home to Winnipeg
BOSTON, MA – The chase to win the 2013 Stanley Cup is over. After a dramatic win on Monday night, the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions, the Boston Bruins. Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathon Toews has earned his name on the cup for the second time since 2010.
With the tying goal and one assist in Game 6 of the Lord Stanley Finals, Toews was an impact player for the Blackhawks in winning the cup. Placing 5th on his team in points during the 2013 playoffs, the Winnipeg native had a combined 14 points (3 G, 11 A). The recent Selke Award winner continued his influential 2-way play throughout these playoffs leading his club in the hard areas of the ice matched against some of the league’s best. Toews is now the first captain to win two Stanley Cups in the salary cap era.
Manitobans can now look forward to another Stanley Cup celebration likely to once again be held at Jonathon Toews Community Centre in St. Vital, formerly Dakota Community Centre.
