Western Canadian Bantam Championships at MTS Iceplex

by Hockey Manitoba  |  April 5, 2011 10:55 am

Winnipeg, MB – Hockey Winnipeg is extremely pleased to be hosting the Western Canada Bantam Championship this coming weekend, April 7th‐10th, 2011. Provincial champions from four provinces, British Columbia (Burnaby Winter Club), Alberta (Edmonton SSAC Southgate Lions), Saskatchewan (Prince Albert Pirates), and Manitoba (Winnipeg Hawks) will compete along with the host team (Winnipeg Sharks) over the four day event held at the MTS Iceplex.

The round robin tournament gets underway Thursday, April 7th with the host Winnipeg Sharks squaring off against the Manitoba Champion Winnipeg Hawks at 1:00pm. Play wraps up on Sunday April 10th with the Bronze medal game at 10:00am and the Championship Game at 1:00pm.

Winnipeg last hosted this prestigious event back in 2007 with the Winnipeg Sharks falling to the Burnaby Winter Club in the championship game. More recently, the Winnipeg Monarchs were crowned 2010 Western Canada Bantam Champions last season after a triple overtime victory over the Calgary Bisons in the final game.

National Hockey League star, Chicago Blackhawks Captain and Stanley Cup Champion Jonathan Toews skated at the 2003 Western Canada Bantam Championship as a member of the Winnipeg Warriors and is a prime example of the caliber of players you will get to see at the 2011 edition of this event.
